Assess the volumes and classes timber for each species of commercial timber tree in Vientiane, Saynabouli and Xieng Khouang Provinces using an aerial photogrammetric method.

Joint Research Centre of the European Commission for generating fire  recognition and temperature calibration algorithms.  4 man-months over 2 years.

Review of existing  environmental impact assessments, prepare and carry out an investigative programme to rectify deficiencies and generate social  action plans and environmental management plans for proposed hydropower projects. Devise compliance monitoring procedures, and provide a 30 year planning budget.

Study the present water quality situation in Nam Ngum 1 Reservoir to construct, with any valid historical records, a picture of the evolution of water quality from first inundation to the present time.

Ta Sang Hydropower Project

Investigate the Nam Song Diversion impact event, and assess the social and environmental consequences.  Liaise with EdL and villages to devise acceptable procedures to rectify any problems. 3 man months.

Investigate a selection of weirs and other water barriers in Mekong tributaries in Thailand and Lao, and prepare a proposal for designing low cost generic fish passes for low weirs, and alternative solutions for high weirs.

2001-2002

Thailand & Lao PDR Fish Pass Study Team Leader, (RMW); Fish Pass Specialist, (GT).  RMR with GT. Reconnaissance investigation of important weirs including Pak Mun, Theun Hinboun, Nam Song, and many small weirs in the Nam Mun basin.  Design trials.   0.5 man month.
