Core Team Members
Murray Watson, M.A., Ph.D.(Cantab),
FRGS Founder & Senior Partner

Murray
has been at the forefront of developing new methodologies for
environmental research and monitoring. He developed the low level aerial
strip-sampling method and has 19,000 in-command hours flying low level
in Africa and SE Asia, covering 5.5 million km². He founded RMR in 1966,
and led the team developing the tethered balloon operational methods and
applications from 2002. Murray’s experience of aerial interpretation,
observation and appropriate non-parametric sampling approaches, coupled
with his knowledge of light aircraft management, operations and piloting
in remote locations mean he has the capacity to offer practical and
ingenious solutions for problems concerning collection and analysis of
all types of field information. Murray has operated the Tethered Balloon
for equipment commissioning work and tests in Laos, and for field and Civil Aviation Authority approval trials, in Kenya and the United Kingdom.

Jenny Nimmo, B.Sc., D.Phil
Senior Partner

Jenny has 30 year’s experience working with RMR in Africa and Europe as a biological researcher and data base specialist. Her experiences include managing field work crews in Somali rangelands, air photo interpretation, survey data management, and writing computer programmes to analyse and report the results of extensive (750,000 km²) resource inventory surveys. Jenny manages the RMR hard copy archives, and studies patterns of energy use and coal consumption in UK for commercial clients.

Sean Philip Watson, B.Sc,
Ph.D
General Manager

Sean
has 18 years experience with RMR in field work in Laos, Thailand, China,
Somalia, Ukraine, Malaysia and Mexico. His expertise includes water quality
monitoring, biofuels, crop trials and agronomic experiments, aerial photography
and satellite imagery interpretation, studies of controlled forest fire
temperatures, biomass degradation in reservoirs, project management,
social and environmental impact assessments, and regulation compliance
in developing countries. He has prepared carbon cycles analyses for renewable energy projects (for CDM application) and
country level power system strategy studies. He is also an experienced hydrological investigator, and has
designed and carried out the rating of river gauging stations. He has designed and managed investigations,
through sampling and monitoring programmes, of social and environmental
conditions for 5,000 families affected by new flow and flood regimes,
and proposed appropriate mitigation measures. Sean is an experienced and
approved hydrogen gas balloon operator.

Peter David Crees, B.Eng
Engineer

Peter has 12 years experience with RMR as an engineer. Peter manages information throughout RMR's research and management activities, and creates the numerous models needed to manage and understand hydrological and other complex systems. He was instrumental in developing remote communication systems for the balloon cameras, and providing, and developing the software packages to convert the images to ortho-photo maps and reliable 3-D models. He has devised and applied methods and systems for rapid ground survey in unfavourable terrain. He operates a total GIS for all RMR Contract work enabling time and place of all records (observations, events, notes, interviews, photographs, TEBIS frames, digital climatic data, measurements, samples and their results) to be swiftly integrated, analysed and reported. He makes ground surveys of structures and damage for verification of drawings, and calibrating TEBIS imagery.

Dr Andrew
G. Watson, B.A. (Cantab), Ph.D.
Associate Partner

Andrew
has founded and manages Food Systems International working in
agri-business and life sciences R & D projects in Africa, Asia, South
America and Europe. He works with RMR on research and applications for
monitoring and managing production of plantation, and annual crops both for food and biofuel production.
Formerly was the lead researcher for the biofuel production group for FMC/International Harvester. A particular joint interest of Andrew and RMR is the development of
efficient and accountable tracing systems for food products and
processing in poorly regulated environments.
